Belgian Tervuren Movies

The Company of Wolves (1984)

Doing a side-by-side comparison, the Belgian Tervuren does not jump out as a great wolf lookalike. Strangely enough, canine casting directors seem to disagree. You can find nearly as many Tervs playing wolves or werewolves as dogs. Still underrated in Hollywood, partly due to dark facial coloring which makes their heads vanish on film, Belgian Tervurens always make an impression when they do appear on the big screen. Also see Belgian LaekenoisMalinois, and Groenendael.

Many shepherd-type dogs appear in this horror film. The three Malinois are brothers.

With a BC star and many breeds seldom seen in North America. Not positive about the Podengo (might be mix) or the Finnish Spitz (just a glimpse in kennel).

The Company of Wolves

1984 (UK)

Belgian Tervuren
★★

One of the oddest roles, not only for Tervs, but any dog on film. A whole pack of them howl, run through nightmares, leap through paintings, and dress up as lords and ladies, all while pretending to be wolves. Also one real wolf seen.

With a dog training school in the film you see dozens of dogs working in the background and doing agility. Unsure about a few of these, like the Silky that could be a large Yorkie. The Akita might be a mix. And the ungroomed bunch of Havanese might also be something else. A few of these, like the Malamute and Doberman, only appear in the credits.
