Alaskan Malamute Movies

Kayla (1999)

The Alaskan Malamute does not have a reputation for being a “trick” dog but can be seen in many wilderness/adventure films portraying wolves. Rarely, they even play Alaskan Malamutes! Still less often, they get large roles—where they always stand out. (Also see Wolves & Wolf Hybrids for Malamute mixes, including Clint Rowe’s famed Jed.)

To Build a Fire

1969 (USA)

Alaskan Malamute
★★★

There are only two characters in this film (and the Jack London short story it’s based on): the man and the dog. Here, “the dog” is Pepper, a brilliant and fine-featured Malamute who steals every scene. Even when the man attacks and wrestles with him, Pepper bounds away and play bows, ready for more. Must-see for fans of northern breeds.

1994 (USA)

Alaskan Malamute
★★★

A Malamute takes over the role of White Fang in this sequel to the 1991 version, in which the lead was played by famed wolfdog, Jed.
